Before you go out and purchase those fishing reels, consider the following tips and tricks to help make sure you are investing in the best reels for your needs.

Look for Good Grips
While the pole itself is usually outfitted with decent grips, you want to make sure that the fishing reels also provide a slip free surface. The knob that's turned to reel the line should be slip free, and a good grip should also be found in the place where you grip the reel when pulling in big and powerful fish. Your hands will get wet as you fish and these grips might be what makes or breaks your success.

The More Ball Bearings the Merrier
Ball bearings are responsible for controlling two things within conventional fishing reels. It maintains the smoothness of the retrieval, and it also aids in slowing the speed of the reel. The more ball bearings you have in your fishing reel, the smoother the entire action of fishing will be. Low end reels tend to have two bearings, while mid range have three to four and high end models have a whopping five or more.

Verify the Line Capacity
There are two different kinds of line capacity you need to be aware of when shopping for conventional fishing reels. The first is the weight capacity because without a decent amount of it, you won't be able to bring many fish in when you catch them. The second is the length of line the reel will hold. The more capacity your reel can hold, the more effective you can be at fishing for your favorite catches.

Size Does Matter
You don't want fishing reels that are too big or bulky as they can get in the way when you are trying to fish. You also don't want a wimpy, small reel because it may not produce the power and assistance that you need in order to actually reel a fish in. Look for something mid sized that is sturdy yet petite enough to give you the space and the power that you need.
