What Is an LED Curtain and How Can It Be Used For Your Next Event or Presentation

By: Art Gib

LED curtain lighting systems are very popular for a wide variety of applications. They are easy to use and offer a unique and completely customizable look for your next event or production. Let's take a few minutes to not only look at why light curtains are so popular but how they can be used and why LED versions are better than older incandescent designs.

First let's talk a moment about what a light curtain (also called a light drape or a light wall) is. To put it simply it is a long flexible strip which has lengths of wiring which hang from it. Mounted to the hanging lengths are dozens, or in some cases hundreds of tiny lights. There are two main types; the most common is the plain version which is similar to string lights and can be used to create a design, to showcase a feature or to set an atmosphere for a space. The second style is known as LED fabric drapery and contains hundreds of lights per square yard in a wide variety of colors. These lights can be triggered via programmed software to create any design or image that you desire.

These systems are very popular in the fact that they allow you to create a certain look, or present a particular idea using light in a very simple and easy to implement way. They are most commonly used to highlight architectural accents, to create a mood in a space during an event, or to replace traditional lighting options for a more elegant feel to a large scale gathering.

One of the most common usages of these systems is to create a wall of light. They can be creatively used to create a "waterfall of light" effect when they are mounted from the ceiling. They can be used to turn to ordinary support columns or scaffolding pillars into towers of light. They can even be used to create a starlight effect when used to drape the ceiling of a space.

The other type of curtain, the LED drapery is used to create a programmable display that with the use of the included software can show any design or simple image that you want. These systems are commonly scene in use with a stage production, or even parade floats.

LED versions offer major advantages over their traditional incandescent counterparts. These advantages include a substantial reduction in power consumption, a reduced risk of fire from overloading, and a greatly reduced level of heat generated by the display. The LED systems are also significantly longer lasting, because there are no elements or filaments to burn out and the bulbs are highly resistant to breakage.

The biggest boon for LED curtains over other lighting options is the fact that you can work with them so easily to create the exact look and feel that you want to convey. These systems are perfect for adding a touch of class to any environment without a lot of effort or great expense.

As you can see there is a great many advantages to an LED curtain lighting system for your next event or presentation. They are cost effective, easy to use and can provide you with the exact display that you are wanting to create.
