Using Aluminum For Various Purposes

By: Harry Browar

Aluminum is one of the most common and popular metal to be used in construction, transportation and manufacturing. It helps in conservation of energy due to its lightness and non-corrosive features. Most vehicles that we use in our daily lives, like bicycles, planes, cars and boats, have aluminum in various proportions in their usage as well as make. Major construction projects have aluminum as a base or support.

Bicycles: Bicycles are now made from aluminum rather than steel as this allows better handling and speed. Aluminum is strong yet light, making it ideal for handling and speed. Aluminum is especially good for racing bikes due to their lightness and durability.

Planes: Since it is non-corrosive, aluminum is ideally suited for planes. Although it is light, aluminum is renowned for its strength. Weight plays quite an important part in the aircraft industry. The lighter the plane, the faster it will be in air and hence more is the efficiency.

Cars made of aluminum run faster and absorb less fuel. The high cost of fuel makes such cars popular. Aluminum cars are also the preferred choice for racers where lighter cars maximise the speed.

Hybrid cars, made of plastic and aluminum are the latest sensations in the new age, light cars. They are extremely fuel-efficient due to their smaller motors and lighter bodies. These environment friendly cars are becoming priority transport for many eco-friendly organizations and corporates.

Boats: The fishing boat is the most common form of an aluminum boat. Although you can have fiberglass or wood boats, aluminum fishing boats come with their own unique set of advantages. They are known for efficient power consumption and uses comparatively less amount of fuel than its counterparts. This is definitely a very attractive feature when you take into account the steadily rising cost of fuel. Aluminum being a light material, boats made from it are lightweight, which means they need less amount of fuel and travel faster. Aluminum boats can better withstand leaks, decaying and rusting. They are easy to mend if damaged and are more durable than boats constructed from other materials.

Transporting an aluminum boat is easier to handle and tow than boats made from other material because of its lighter weight. Of course it is much easier to maintain, as it will just require washing down as opposed to waxing and varnishing for other types of boats. They are also safer as instead of shattering on impact like a fiberglass boat can do, they will just dent. This allows you to keep repair costs down as well.

Aluminum alloys are a cheap option for constructing the various parts of a train. The use of aluminum means that trains are now lighter, speedier and thus more efficient.

Aluminum has an array of uses in the transportation industry and has led to the development of more efficient and sturdy modes of conveyance. From the small domestic cars to the huge commercial jet planes, aluminum has led to a definite revolution in the way we move around.
