With the temperatures warming up and evenings getting longer, it is the perfect time to gather those in your community and/or neighborhood and host a get-together. These types of events promote a sense of community and bring each other closer. After a long winter it's also a great way to commemorate a new season and the chance to be outside. Follow these tips to make your night a success.

Food
Decide early what you serve and how you will divide the food responsibilities. It's often easiest to request that everyone bring a dish to share with everyone and provide the meat. If this is not possible, have everyone bring their own meat as well. Grills will need to be gathered and monitored while the food is cooking. It's a good idea to ask for shade pop-up tents if your event will coincide with a sunny part of the day. The food will be kept for a longer period of time if not left in the sun.

Entertainment
Ask among those who will attend and you will most likely find that someone can share some of their talents that evening. Whether it be a soloist, a fiddler, a dancer or a barbershop quartet, a small concert of three or four numbers will make the party feel professional and give everyone a sense of pleasure. Asking among your group rather than asking for an outsider will also assure that you will have members among your neighborhood that will want to come out to support them.

Activities
You will most likely have a variety of ages attending your event, so plan for activities that everyone will enjoy. Renting or borrowing a jumbo screen and projecting a large scale movie is a good idea for when the sun starts to go down. This could be accompanies by popcorn supplies and other treats. A snow cone machine, cotton candy machine or face painting booth are also fun activities that younger children would enjoy.

Whether you want a small gathering in your backyard or move your party to the streets and include the whole neighborhood, you are sure to have an eventful and successful evening if you keep these guidelines in mind. You will also find that the majority of those you ask will be more than willing to volunteer their time to help you out, so do not be afraid to recruit helpers. So do not hesitate to make that move.
