The Technology of Underwater Vision

By:

Modern medical technology has become so amazing in recent years that people with poor vision can now see perfectly, even underwater. At one time, dive masks were only available to people who could already see clearly. Then, once contact lenses were invented, people with poor vision could wear their contacts and a dive mask underwater. Still, that hung people who only wear glasses out to dry, so to speak. But now, even people who exclusively wear glasses can see clearly underwater with the help of prescription diving masks.

Being able to see clearly underwater helps a lot of people achieve their dreams. With this technology, many more people can appreciate the indescribable views of a coral reef or see what the ocean looks like when you swim fifty feet below the surface.

Even though a fulfilling hobby is reason enough to appreciate the invention of prescription diving masks, certain careers rely on this modern technology as well. For underwater photographers or marine biologists, being able to see clearly underwater means being able to do what they love as a living. Other careers involving scuba diving include underwater construction, scuba diving instruction, underwater engineering, and military clearance divers. For anyone interested in these careers, the availability of this means that they will not be left out because of poor eyesight.

Although they have been around for the past sixty years or so, the technology was not advanced enough to be thoroughly reliable. Underwater welding tasks and reading gauges as a scuba instructor are things that could put people's safety at risk. It is very vital that people in these positions have perfectly clear vision.

When they were first invented, they were only made for people with mild cases of far-sightedness. People with strong prescriptions could not hope to acquire them to suit their needs. Anyone with complex prescriptions like bifocals or astigmatism would have been completely out of luck. However, now they can be made to correct any of these vision problems, and are relatively inexpensive and easy to attain.

A whole range are available on the internet. Some simple questions need to be answered, such as prescription details and facial dimensions. After that is finished, prescription diving masks can be ordered and will show up at a customer's doorstep within a few days to a few weeks. Many stores along the coast have prescription diving masks available also, particularly in coastal towns known for scuba diving.
