The Obsolete Church - a Sign of the Times

By: Drew Hawkins

The organization that claims to be the representative of the creator of the all things has become completely ineffective at a global level. This organization that claims to represent the creator of life has lost so much influence over time it is almost a joke. This institution that claims to be the spokesman for the most powerful being in the universe is completely divided. They claim to speak for the one and only true God, yet only create confusion and disappointment.

There are many organizations throughout the world that do good, save people's lives, provide the essentials of life in a catastrophy and rehabilitate those who are burdened by crime and addiction. Clubs and associations that organize people to do good are all around.

These organizations, however, no matter how much good they do or how many lives they save are not the same as a church and will never become one. This can be said for AA, NA, the Red Cross even the MDA. That being said, the church itself seems to be acting like one of these organizations in many ways more than a church. That is probably a major reason for the confusion and disappointment.

I have been able to observe the inner workings of the church for the last decade and a half by living and working in it. I could tell you things I have observed first hand in the local church that would make you sick. I'm sure it is having that affect on Christ, as he looks down upon it. It is hard enough for me, a tarnished impure mortal to handle it. Imagine how hard it must be by someone as pure and holy as Jesus. Yet he sees all and endures it. How does he feel when he sees people hurt, lives destroyed, and peoples lives turned away from him by the arrogance and sin of those who should be leading them to Christ. No wonder the church is loosing its influence in the world.

I think the main thing that separates a church from the other clubs and other do-gooder organizations in the world is the requirement to live the teachings of that God they are supposed to be speaking for. When they go off with their righteous teaching and holy words without requiring obedience to them, they become as sounding brass and tinkering symbols, hypocrites. When churches do this they become no more than a club. But it doesn't work as a club or philanthropic organization, because it claims to be so much more. Because the church is afraid of offending and losing members by requiring repentance, that is exactly what is happening. People need church in their lives to help them be more Christlike and find the true joy and happiness only his way can offer.
