The Miracle of Underwater Vision Control

By:

When you wear glasses and like to swim, you learn exactly how sacred a good pair of prescription swim goggles can be. From casual swimmers to professional scuba divers and underwater photographers, many people have benefitted from the development of prescription swim goggles. The ability to see clearly underwater is something that a lot of other people sometimes take for granted. If you wear contact lenses, or are lucky enough to have perfect vision, then any old pair of swim goggles works for you. However, people who wear glasses have not been so lucky in the past.

Until the 1950s, these just simply did not exist. People who loved to swim were pretty much out of luck if they wore glasses. Wearing glasses around water just does not work. Any splash of water impedes your vision, and you would not be able to carry a dry cloth in order to clean the lenses.

Since the invention of prescription swim goggles, many people's lives have been enriched. Being able to see clearly in and under the water is important to people who enjoy the sport, but it is also more than that. Some people know very early on what they want to do in life. Unfortunately, as they grow up, people sometimes have to face the harsh reality that things outside of their control will keep them from doing what they thought they were destined to do.

Thanks to certain modern advancements in medicine and science, those people now have some hope. For example, the miracle of lasik eye surgery allows people with poor vision to join the FBI or the Air Force. Similarly, prescription swim goggles have opened up new worlds for people who have always dreamed of becoming deep sea divers or underwater photojournalists.

Like any other swim goggle, they are manufactured to be lightweight, durable, and extremely comfortable. Most prescription swim goggles also come with anti-fog technology built into the lenses.

Manufacturers vary, so if you are in the market be sure to do a little homework. Some they cost just a little more than your basic non-prescription pair at Sports Authority or Target. Of course, you can also find them that will make next month's budget a little tight.

One of the most important options to consider is whether you want a custom lens or a step-diopter mask. A custom pair will be manufactured with your exact prescription. This would be the wise choice for anyone with a strong lens, bifocals, or astigmatism; however, anyone can opt for a custom pair. The step-diopter prescription swim goggles were the first type invented. These goggles can be purchased a bit cheaper because they are manufactured in bulk. However, this also means that you must choose a mask that will be close to your particular prescription. For most people this is fine, but it is definitely something to consider.
