Telecom is a general term used for Telecommunication Company. It is abbreviation for the term telecommunication. In India the government department for telecoms is TRAI i.e. telecom regulatory authority of India. Telecommunication is a method of exchanging the information over significant distances by electronic means. The exchange of information is between two devices transmitter and receiver.
Telecom carrier is the term used for the company that is authorized by regulatory agencies to operate a telecommunications system. Indians are world’s second largest mobile phone users which is a reason of existence of so many telecom companies in India. India’s telecom market is world’s largest and fastest growing industry.

According to the facts informed by telecom regulatory authority of India total number of subscribers were nine hundred seven million approximately at the end of September 2011. The Indian telecom sector is dominated by private sector industries. Almost eighty eight percent of total telecom industry is in the hands of private corporations. Due to liberal policies of telecom regulatory authority of India, it is easy for private companies to work freely and fairly. It also provides telecom services to the Indian customers at reasonable price.
Because it is a fastest growing industrial sector and the investment requirements are increasing day by day, companies’ alien to the telecom sector has started investing in this sector. The most expensive part of telecommunication set up is telecom tower. For new comers it is difficult to arrange such huge amount, so they collaborate with either already existing companies or the investors.
The growth rate of telecom industry can be guessed by the increment in the number of subscribers since year 2002, which was ten million and now in the year 2011, it is above nine hundred million. With growth, changes and modifications have also been part of telecom industry these days CDMA is losing grip over the market and GSM is replacing it.
The tariff rates have changed exponentially within last few years. Large number of telecom service providers gives customers several options. And extreme competition compels telecom companies to provide good services at less price value. In case any telecom network is not working properly, customers have an option to switch.
These telecom services forms a considerable part of social and economic development of country. Now with the introduction of mobile number portability, customers are getting better options, while the competition between various telecom organizations is getting tougher. Previously only urban areas were using telecom services but now approximately every convenient area is covered by telecom services.
Bharti Airtel is country’s largest private telecom operator, it added 0.94 million subscribers. Vodafone closely following it added 0.92 million customers. Bharti Airtel is now in news due to its deteriorating services. The recent data released by national service helpline also approves the deteriorating service and customer dissatisfaction. Vodafone customer’s have complaint about its poor roaming services.
