Bike riding is sweeping the country as a favorite form of exercise. Chicago has bicycle shops are ready to help you with anything you might need in the world of biking. Have you ever noticed that any new hobby you become involved in there is a whole subculture built around that interest? Biking is no different. Biking enthusiast sleep, eat and drink biking. There are wonderful rides not too from the city that offer beautiful vistas, challenging rides, and people to ride with. Bike shops can help you find like-minded people of all levels and abilities.

The benefits of bicycling are many. First of all, it gets you off the couch, away the television, computer, ipad or a thousand other time consuming non-active activities. That contributes to over 20 diseases and conditions including heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, cancer, poor weight, diabetes and mental health problems. Get OFF the couch and ride your bike! Biking is less stressful on the body than running and offers more freedom. More than 20 percent of the cities children are obese and almost 50 percent are overweight!! Time to ride for your life!

Increasing physical activity can help prevent or manage all of the above diseases and conditions. Switch to biking instead of riding a car, bus, or train to work, school and play. Talk about your great gas mileage! Free, and who doesn't like free?

Did you know that many trips are faster by bicycle than car? Especially short trips under three miles. Chicago roads are a nightmare by car or bus, motorist spend hours stuck in traffic, ride a bike or combine bike and transit and you are on your way to a healthier, happier, more convenient lifestyle.

Besides gas, what are other savings? Bicycles don't require insurance, taxes or registration, parking passes, and very little maintenance or upkeep. In comparison, the average Chicago residence spends $7,500 per year on transportation. That's a lot of money wasted. Not only are bikes good for your body, your wallet and your mental health, they are also good for the enviroment. Bikes don't pollute, they don't require a lot of land for roads and parking lots.

Get off the couch and head to the nearest Chicago bicycle shop and enjoy a longer, happier, healthier lifestyle.
