Managing Your Water Treatment

By: Art Gib

One common misconception is that there is no need to purify water going to showers and bathtubs. The truth is the body actually takes in a lot of chemicals during a hot bath or shower, because of absorption and inhalation. When the water heats up, the chemicals turn into a vapor and can be breathed in. Also, when your body is exposed to the hot water your pours open up allowing harmful substances to be absorbed into the body.

This is why whole house filtration systems may be the best choice for you and your family. There are two types: reverse osmosis, and multi-stage. Between the two it seems that multi-stage is the best option. The reverse osmosis systems are typically the more expensive option. The cost of the unit is about the same, but they waste about half the water they use. For example, for every one galloon it gives, it uses two. This not only you cost you a lot of money, but it is a huge waste of water. On top of that, the osmosis does not seem all that much better than the mulit-stage

The multi-stage systems remove about the same amount of impurities, 99%, but they also keep some of the helpful minerals that are good for your body. Trace minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium are left behind and can provide health benefits. One convenient aspect is the fact that you will only need to replace the filter every three years. The cost of water usage is significantly less as well. It can be less than 10 cents a gallon.

If you are looking for a good water softener in Phoenix, then you should know the two most common types. There are automatic softeners and DIR systems. The automatic water softener works on a schedule that you set. Every day at that time, it regenerates its salt. With this you could end up wasting a lot of salt. The DIR (Demand Initiated Regeneration) system only regenerates when it needs to. It has a built-in meter that measures the amount of water consumption and works all on its own, without the need for supervision. The water softener system is in control of the salt instead of a timer. When you save salt you save money. This system seems to be the best, because it will save you the hassle of always adding salt, but it will also use less of it.
