With changing times, designer dresses and western fashion have taken the world by storm and have unfold their wings among all dress styles. Fashion designers also have started concentrating and innovating on western inspired clothes like kurtis, jeans and trousers. Saree is the only Indian apparel which has not loosed its charm and still is in demand and preferred by all Indian ladies.

Saree is the traditional and ethnic outfit of women in India. Derived from the prakrit word Sattika, Saree is the most glamorous, yet demure outfit. It is believed that it was originated in southern India. But today saree has gained enough popularity to symbolize itself as an Indian heritage and legacy. Sarees reflect the status, religion and economic condition of the women who are wearing it.

Sari (originally Chira in Sanskrit, meaning Cloth), is a rectangular piece of cloth, usually 5-9 yards in length. For an untailored and unstitched piece of cloth, the fabric and design of the sari is very well thought-out, and the design very sophisticated. This versatile garment can be worn for any occasion, be it a wedding, reception, sangeet, birthday, casual parties or office.

Available in a range of fabrics including cotton, silk, crepe, jacquard, tussar silk, georgette, chiffon, and brocade, sarees can be kept plain simple or also can be embroidered or printed. Printed sarees usually have floral prints, geometrical prints, abstract prints or different attractive and innovative prints to gather your attention. Embroidered sarees are usually heavy and mostly are choosen for parties and weddings and other special occasions.

Embellishment of resham, sequin, beads, pearls, zari, zardozis, crystals, diamentes and stones make sarees look beautiful and magnificent. The enchanting and attractive designs give an aesthetic and trendy feel. Off-late net sarees have become popular among the party-goers.

Sarees come in a range of bright and soft-tone colors. Colors like white, yellow, blue, pink, brown are prefered for office and casual wear where as bright attractive colors like orange, red, purple, dark blue, magenta, green are prefered for parties and weddings.

Indian has 28 states and each state has its own way and tradition of tying a saree. Most famous of them are the Gujrati style, Maharashtrian style, Bengali Style and Marwari Style. Kanjeevaram sarees, banarasi sarees, bandhini printed sarees, baluchuri sarees, Sambalpuri sarees, Kantha saree and Patoli sarees are famous all over the world for their fine craftsmanship and quality.

Saree is draped along with a petticoat and a blouse. Matching petticoat and blouse enhance the beauty of the saree.

A petticoat is a waist-to-floor garment, tied tightly at the waist by a drawstring. The petticoat color should match the base sari color as closely as possible. No part of the petticoat, of course, is visible outside the Sari, after having worn it.

A blouse which needs to be tight-fitting and whose color needs to be chosen keeping the look of the sari in mind, can be short sleeved or sleeveless, with a variety of necklines. The blouse ends just below the bust. Now a days all saree come with matching blouse pieces to suit with the saree well.
