How to Keep a Car Looking Nice and Shiny With the Right Care regimen

By: Pam Kenterton

Cleaning your car can actually be quite theraputic and gives you a good workout if you do it right. Lets look at the aspects of car cleaning and see what tips we can impart when it comes to keeping that showroom shine on your car. In this article we shall look at cleaning the car, especially the paint work and will look at the different products on offer and what they do. There are also some misconceptions about some products that can lead to serious paint damage over time.
Clean cars will often fetch 10-20% more money than a dirty car and will sell faster. The grime and dirt gradually builds up and will if left eat into the paint so regular washing and cleaning is highly recommended.
We regularly get stories from car owners with problems and sadly a lot of these issues could have been negated completely if proper servicings of the automobile had been serviced. In this recession driven world a lot of motorists are trying to save money by cutting corners. What they don't realise is that they are actually storing up a whole heap of troubleand expense in the future on their automobile.
waxes and sealents (sometimes called synthetic waxes) lay a protective film over the paint. Depending on the condition of the paint select an appropriate product. My personal preference on cars with great paint is a non carbonara wax as it is easy to apply, lasts a long time and does not require stripping each time it is applied. Wax does tend to outlast sealants but with modern manufacturing techniques and the huge array of products on offer it is impossible to generalise and we suggest you seek reviews first before choosing.
Please exercise caution with car polishes. Most car polishes remove a thin layer of paint. It is great for removing swirls and minor scratches but each time it is used it removes a small layer of paint. Polishing should only be done rarely when the paintwork has become dull and never more frequently than every two years or so.
your vehicle should be washed weekly, particularly the wheels. Brake dust gets fixed in and is impossible to get off if you don't take it off regularly.
Clay bars are effective and get right into the grime in the paintwork pulling it off, leaving perfectly glassy finish ready foran application of your wax or sealant.
The wax or sealant can protect the car from further damage. The biggest risk is from bird strikes. This eat into the paint work as it is acidic. This should be removed and neutralised immediately.
