How to Freelance: The No. 1 Sign It's Time to Quit Your Job to Freelance Fulltime

By: Yuwanda Black

First I want to say that for every person, making the decision to ditch a job to freelance fulltime is different. It depends on so many factors, eg, finances, kids, school, own/rent home, etc. But, there are some pretty universal symbols that it may be time to take the leap. And, they all start with the following feeling.

Have you ever been so sick and tired of something that you just couldn't do it another minute, second, millisecond? You see, usually when you have a dream, it germinates for a while. All the while this is happening, you become even more dissatisfied with what you are doing - because it's impeding what you really want to be doing. This is what I mean by being sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Do You Want to Work Freelance Fulltime But Feel Stuck?

FYI, this kind of dissatisfaction can lead to health problems, eg, stress, depression, moodiness, lethargy, etc. One freelance writer illustrates this feeling perfectly. She felt stuck in a job she hated. She wanted to work freelance fulltime and was severely unhappy, summing up her feelings the following way:

"It was just . . . time to leave my employer. I've been miserable ever since I started there. Miserable, as in crying as I saw the building rise up on the crest of the hill as I drove in to work. I spoke with my husband and he knew how unhappy he was. I . . . took the leap of faith and quit the dreaded 'day job.' I'm now working full-time as an SEO content writer. Have been so for about a month. I finally left my full-time job and I couldn't be happier. Even in THIS economy."

She Left a Job She Truly Hated - Even When She Was the Main Breadwinner of Her Family

And, here's the kicker, "I was the main breadwinner for my family of three! My husband is working in a seasonal job and it does not pay a living wage. Regardless, I'm not worried. I get up every day rarin' to go. I love my life right now."

How to Freelance: Are You So Unhappy that You're Physically Manifesting Symptoms?

If you're so unhappy that you start to physically manifest symptoms (eg, shed tears) when you pull up to your job, this is sign number one that you're sick and tired of being sick and tired.
