Everyone, especially children, are excited by a new puppy. Just make sure that the you are taking home this puppy for good reasons, and not just momentary happiness. The common saying often revolved around dogs are for life simply not for Christmas. Although bringing a puppy home will provide lots of joy and companionship, it's not all fun and games: any pet requires patience and hard work to keep them obedient and happy.
Both the breed and method in which it was raised will determine the demeanor of a puppy. German shepherds, Rottweilers, bull dogs and boxers are all guard type dogs so tend to be very loving and protective. Border and Bearded Collies are often energetic and excitable dogs historically used for herding (You should realize that their rural upbringing might make them skittish around big city noises and structures). Hunting dogs such as Labradors and pointers have an infectious enthusiasm that will make you love their company. These are just general expectations; the dog's personality plays a large part as well.
Dependent on the amount of time and attention invested, puppy dog training is achievable. You will not need to invest multiple hours a day for training, a few minutes throughout the day will suffice. When training a new puppy, a good way to start off is to teach him some obedience commands including sit, come, fetch and run to name a few. When your puppy starts to get older, you will enjoy teaching it commands like rolling over and playing dead. The best part about training your dog is that you must know the basics of training your pet. This training is going to influence their behavior for the rest of their lives, but keep in mind that if you don't put in daily reminders after the initial training session, their skills are going to fade.
Failing to properly train your puppy will come back to haunt you, your house may be turned into a toilet and your furniture will suffer. Puppies are like babies and need to be taught the difference between right and wrong, to do this you need some puppy dog training!
Many people, whether experienced or not, look to training aids to help train their dog. You don't need these aids, however, to successfully train your dog. Training a puppy takes months of patient work, make sure you do a few minutes everyday to reinforce what the dog has learned and to make sure it does not forget.
