Whether you are a full-time working mom or a stay at home mom, or a dad or travels frequently for business, your children and family unit should be your top priority. We live in a world where many topics, events and other associations vie for our time and loyalty. Follow these tips to ensure that your family stays close and always know that they are a priority.

Family Night
Carve out one night a week that is solely dedicated to doing something as a family. It's important to stay committed to this night so that as activities come up or sports meets occur, everyone in the family knows that that night is already off limits. Each member of the family can take turns deciding what activity everyone will do or what topics will be discussed. Take this time to express love, develop talents and instill confidence in your children.

Family Traditions
Traditions are the ties that bind a family together. Whether it be cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning or expressing gratitude on Thanksgiving, the traditions that your family participates in will help your children feel stable and secure. They will give roots to their experience as a person and strengthen the ties within your family unit. If your family does not currently have many traditions, make an effort to establish some. Some families pull out the popcorn machines and have movie nights together, some play games likes charades and hide and seek, while others do research and teach certain subjects. Whether silly or sentimental, your kids will appreciate what they'll have to look forward to.

One-on-One Time

This could be a lunch date with Dad or an evening out with Mom, but it is important to let them know they are of worth and special to you. Be sure to steer the conversations to what they want to talk about and generate an interest in what is going on their life right now. These casual outings are a great time to gage what kinds of things can be done to develop their talents and help them learn and grow to reach their potential. It is also a safe time for your kids to breech subjects that may be a concern or worry to them, but they have never seen a chance to bring up previously.
