Grate Heater Millions of Home Owners Can Cut Their Energy Bills

By: David Plouffe

During the winter our residences, some 27 million, could all help reduce our dependence upon imported oil. As blatant of a proclamation this is, any occasion 27 million homes do something, it will have an instantaneous effect on the nation. If millions of people got the inspiration to buy a fireplace heater, fireplace fan or a fireplace grate radiator, there are not that many in supply. What if, always a wonderful question, these potential dwelling owners, turned energy conservationist, reduced the quantity of electricity, coal or natural gas by as slight as one or two percent?
What if the grid locked political system could promote the use of a green supply? Hardwood trees like oak, maple, hackberry are renewed every day in the natural scheme of things, what if we as a nation helped this supply further along? Of course, that would necessitate planned and future thinking, something we here in the great nation do not often do. If we can subsidize farmers for crops and oil companies for production, then can we help something environmental that we know already works. Why not transplant a tree to be more self sustaining for fuel. There are lots of idle acres that could be planted and in a not many years provide a continued supply of cord wood.
We lack true manufacturing jobs in this nation. Turing to wood for energy would produce a new expansion. An old business once strong, would be subjected to a renewal. Fireplace inserts would become a customary sight in new residences and be retro fitted into existing dwellings. Yes, while fireplace blowers are less efficient, there reduced expense would make them accessible for most any home owner that would want one. Putting safety first, fireplace screens and hearth rugs would be a common site in the home.
Other segments of the wood industry would have a constructive expansion. Chain saw makers, log splitters, protective gear to dress in while cutting, trucks and trailers to haul and transport wood are all parts of the industry that would flourish. This business would not be dominated by a couple of big corporations. This truly would be small family run companies at its greatest. A farmer looking to broaden his production of crops could add acres of hard wood to work into the overall cash crop idea. I am not saying that we as a country could warm all our houses with wood. That is not logical. We, as a country, could with little effort, use an exsiting source and develop it to a more efficient use.
