Economically Feasible Option Is A Used Car

By: John Chambers

Did those words put you into any type of fear? It shouldn't have. Before you buy a used car, you should know the value of the car that you are planning to buy, verify the vehicle's maintenance, legality and ownership history, and perform a pre-purchase inspection. But, most importantly, you should know what you want from your car as it will help you get an enjoyable experience.

Some people consider buying a car comparable to buying groceries. Wandering without any aim, they just expect to get their dream car. It isn't going to work this way.

To have a positive car buying experience you need a plan and follow certain designated steps. You should know what you want in a car.

Extract some time from your schedule to drive some cars with the equipment and style that appeal to you. Plan ahead for major purchases so there is time to work through the buying experience, finding the best product for the least cost.

Checking the documents of the car that you want to buy is the first thing you should do. Go through the registration documents and the importation papers thoroughly if it's an imported car.

Details such as the date and place of registration and history of ownership can be found from the registration documents. You should opt for a long test drive. Ideally the test drive should be longer than 15 minutes, so that the car is heated up.

Only after a mechanic has examined a used car should you buy it. You should take suggestions from a mechanic that your friend or you can count on.

If you are buying from a dealer, you should not let the dealership's service unit carry out this examination. They can't be regarded as exactly an unprejudiced third party.

In case of doubt ask how much it would take for a repair. If you think that the repair would cost you a lot, do not purchase the car. If you think that the problem is comparatively small but will need attention, let the seller know and try to bargain for a better price.

Look for rust under doors, in the wheel wells, in the area of lights and bumpers, at the bottom of fenders, etc. Little blisters could lead to rust in the future.

You should watch for paint that does not match, rough surfaces, and paint over spray on chrome, all probable symbols of a fresh paint job, masking body problems. You should closely check for any indication of a past accident such as an indentation on the surface, cracks, etc.

Lastly, you can call and check with finance companies if the finance deal is similar to the industry rate. You would have to pay extra each year of you do not check for the industry rates as some of the dealers increase the finance rate.
