Conquering Your Running Excuses and Staying Motivated

By: Tommy Greene

If you are interested in losing weight and toning your body, the first important step is to get past all of the excuses that you mind produces to keep you from getting off the couch and running. Your treadmill is sitting there waiting for you-it is time to push past your excuses and put it to good use.

There are many common excuses that we produce to get out of exercising-working out is not always the most fun thing to do with your time, but it is very important to your health. One of the most common excuses that people use is lack of time in their schedule.

It is time to get honest with yourself and how you are spending your time. You are probably busy with family, work, school, or a number of other things-however, there is always enough time in the day to squeeze in a twenty minute run on your treadmill.

It simply takes some planning, and perhaps giving up a little TV time. Perhaps you could make a little extra time by getting up half an hour earlier to go for a morning run.

Alternatively, could you run to or from work instead of driving or using public transport. Another way to fit a run into your schedule is to join a running club.

They will meet at a set time each week, so you can plan to join them. Once you get into the habit of fitting runs into your week, it will become much easier to do-go ahead and check this previous excuse off your mental list.

Next, you may think that you simply hated running in the past, so this must be the case still now. It is ok to let go of your old P.E. experiences in the past, and start over with running.

As an adult, your body is better equipped to run than when you were a child or teenager. Your bones have fully developed and you have better stamina so can run for longer distances.

Finally, just because you did not like something as a child, does that still mean you will not enjoy it as an adult? It is certainly worth giving it a try to see your opinion may have changed-it may be much easier for you now.

The next common excuse people use is that they are too overweight to run. This is a completely false idea, and your doctor can verify this.

Running is the best possible way to lose weight, no matter what number you are starting at. If you feel you have legitimate health concerns, talk to your doctor before you begin running and make sure that it is safe for you.

If you start running and stick at it, coupled with a healthy diet, you will soon start to lose the pounds that were holding you back. If you feel that the strain is too great on your joints, talk to your doctor about ways that you can control this pain.

You may even be able to start with some stationary biking, while your joints become stronger. You will be hitting the treadmill in no time at all.

If you are obese, you are more likely to suffer from diseases like heart attacks and diabetes. So stop making excuses because of your size and start doing something to change it - it could end up saving your life.

The last excuse that people use is that they find running on a treadmill to be boring. However, keep in mind that you do not have to do the same routine every time.

You can try getting outside for a while, and running around the neighborhood. Use this as a time to explore your area.

Treading the same paths can become monotonous so mix it up by running through the countryside and around parks as well. You could discover new places, landmarks, and wildlife you might not have realized were there before.

Try running with a friend for some added distraction. Even listening to some of your favorite music can make the time pass by much more quickly, and be more enjoyable at the same time.

However, remember to be extra vigilant about traffic and people around you when running with headphones on-they can become distracting if you are not careful. Today is the perfect day to throw out your excuses and hit the treadmill again.
