Canadian Province Seeks nearly 300 Irish Skilled Workers

Hundreds of skilled workers from Ireland are expected to help Saskatchewan deal with its local businesses talent shortage.
Next month, the Saskatchewan government and local entrepreneurs will take part in a labour recruitment mission to Ireland, where about 75,000 people are expected to emigrate in 2012 as unemployment in the country continues to rise. The reason for choosing Ireland to be the destination for the mission, as Employment and Immigration Minister Rob Norris indicated, is also because of its solid reputation for education and skills training.
There will be careers fairs in two Irish cities with more than 9,000 qualified candidates expected to attend.
Entrepreneurs from Saskatchewan, with support from immigration staff in their visit to Ireland will meet with prospective skilled workers in trades, construction, engineering and health sciences fields.
"The new Saskatchewan offers jobs, a high quality of life and a welcoming environment to newcomers," said Premier Brad Wall.
"There is a tremendous pool of qualified people in Ireland who are actively seeking opportunities abroad".
"The mission will connect Saskatchewan employers with qualified candidates who are seeking to emigrate," Minister Rob Norris added.
22 entrepreneurs have already committed to participating in the mission, offering over 275 vacancies for qualified Irish workers. Irish candidates who receive an offer of employment will work with immigration officers to apply for the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program.
