Bill Cosby Tickets - Cosby Spearheads School Initiative

By:

He may be one of the most recognizable comedians in America, but education isn't funny business for Bill Cosby. NBC Connecticut reports that on April 7, Cosby appeared on the Today Show to talk about his initiative to work with the president of Southern Connecticut State University to change the public schools of New Haven, CT. The legendary comedian and actor turned activist is communicating the message that universities and their communities need to work together to positively impact the lives of children.

Last fall, Bill Cosby took to the streets of New Haven to encourage parents to become more involved in the daily lives of their children by asking who they are playing with and what they are studying in school. "If you are situated around and near a lower economic neighborhood and you are a university, you're a part of the problem. You can't be insular and have people come from all over the world and ignore what's going on outside," Cosby explained.

He may be serious about education, but that doesn't mean Bill Cosby has abandoned comedy. Quite the contrary, as he is in the midst of a comedy tour. Fans can get Bill Cosby tickets to see Cosby perform in cities like Detroit, MI; Vienna, VA; Morristown, NJ; Easton, PA; Lancaster, PA. Cosby has dates-may of which are two-night stands-lined up through late August 2011.

Earlier this spring, Cosby performed at Kansas City, MO's Midland Theater-but before his April 1 gig the comedian paid Ruskin High School a visit to talk to students about coping with pressures like sex and drugs. "If the parents are not strong then the children will run any way they want to. The youth should really come to the counselor in the school, if not ask to talk to the principal," Cosby said. Students (from Ruskin and other metro high schools) who attended the program performed skits modeled off real-life situations about dealing the common pressures and interactions with parents.

A product of a Philadelphia housing project himself, Cosby rose up in the ranks of the standup comedy realm-taking home five Grammys for his comedy albums-to become the first African American to co-star in a dramatic series for his role on the television show I Spy. Cosby was given his very own sitcom, The Cosby Show, in the 1980s and the iconic program was hailed NBC's savior in the midst of a ratings slump. Once his show went off the air-only after changing the family sitcom format forever-Cosby tried his hand at a film career with roles in films like Uptown Saturday Night. The busy actor and comedian also penned best-sellers like Fatherhood.

Cosby continues to churn out comedy albums, most recently with the 2009 album Bill Cosby Presents the Cosnarati: State of Emergency. The album is the "aural companion" to Cosby's 2007 book Come on People, which was co-written with Dr. Alvin F. Loussaint. The album doesn't feature Cosby, however, but rather gust rappers and activists like Supa Nova Slom, Brother Haz, Jace the Ace and more.
