Australian varsity & Centurion Group forge alliance Students to obtain international degree in country at competitive rates

By: Rath

A team headed by the Vice Chancellor and President Prof. William Lovegrove of the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) of Australia is on a visit to Odisha to negotiate a partnership with a leading educational group of Odisha, namely, the Centurion Group of Institutes. USQ is also exploring opportunities for partnering with the state of Odisha in other fields. USQ regarded as one of Australia’s premier regional universities has already established itself with world class centres of research excellence, learning and teaching programmes. The Vice Chancellor’s visit follows several visits to USQ by members of the CGI leadership team earlier this year. The Vice Chancellor was accompanied by his Pro Vice Chancellor for Institutional Partnerships and Dean of the Faculty of Business, Professor Allan Layton. The Australian University is set to launch BTech/ MTech and Master’s degree in Professional Accounting in partnership with Centurion Group Institutes, Odisha. The degrees, which will be offered in July 2010, will be recognized globally and have International Accreditation since Australia is part of the Washington Accord and currently Chairs it whereas India still has provisional membership. These internationally recognized and accredited degrees will be obtained in Odisha at a very competitive price with the domestic market. The students will have the option to visit Australia for a month for practical experience and exposure. Professor Lovegrove said that USQ’s focus on rural and regional education issues aligns well with those of the Centurion Group, which has a reputation for providing quality education and striving for economic development in regional Odisha through Jagannath Institute for Technology and Management (JITM) and Centurion School of Rural Enterprise Management (CSREM). The Chairman of the Centurion Group, Prof. Mukti Mishra said “We are looking forward to a joint offer of degrees both at the graduate and post-graduate levels in the areas of engineering, finance and management. This will open up an array of opportunities for the student fraternity particularly at the international level, besides faculty members acquiring teaching and learning skills of international standards.” It is hoped that CGI will soon become part of USQ’s extensive overseas education program, which includes higher education institutions in Fiji, Singapore, Russia, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Mauritius, the United States of America, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, China and New Zealand. Many of these partners have already expressed interest in partnering with CGI to identify the potential for further education. “During the visit we are hoping to investigate a number of areas where we can build closer teaching and research relationships and deliver high quality educational opportunities for students,” Professor Layton said. “The opportunity for Australian students to experience the cultural and education diversity that India offers through this partnership will also be increased,” he added. Under the partnership, CGI students will have the opportunity to gain Australian or joint USQ/CGI qualifications in Odisha. CGI academics will undertake professional development programmes provided by USQ, which has an international reputation in higher education teaching methodologies. These professional development programmes will also be extended to other institutions in Odisha. This partnership is also expected to lead to joint research projects in various fields such as water management, agriculture engineering, drought management, building and construction management, rural health engineering, health informatics research and so on.
