The London summer Olympics is a chance to visit an international city for the world's most international event. Everybody identifies in some way with the Olympics in some way, and a vacation to London is a very good idea. The city doesn't completely shut down during the games, and that means you have the chance to take in everything the country has to offer. Plus, you will be there during one of the most magical events of the century.

Head out to the UK for the games, and plan a trip that including more than just athletic competition. Tickets for the events are given on a lottery to the citizens in the host country, and then the rest of the planet pays exorbitant prices for them. So, you may not get lots of tickets, or you may not get tickets for all the competitions you want. Plan the rest of your visit around the events you are not seeing.

Go over and see the sites that made this region famous, and you'll be able to take in the vast amount of history that is associated with the city. England's capital is a treasure trove of sights, sounds, and buildings. Take a tour, or walk the streets on your free time.

The theater scene in the city is fantastic, and the classical music choices are second-to-none. There are seven professional orchestra in town, and many theaters producing Broadway plays and musicals. Get some culture into the trip in between the track and the pool.

Plan ahead and stay in a cozy bed and breakfast. Cramming into a crowded hotel may not suit your fancy, and a B&B in the heart of town will seem much more peaceful when you're staying in a cozy cottage. Accommodations are all over the place, but you don't have to be stuck with some hotel you found online.

London's shopping is also like none other in the world. Giant department stores and specialty shops dot the landscape, and every conceivable fashion will be on display. There will be plenty of vendors selling Olympic merchandise as well. Make sure to pick up some themed products that will be worth something one day. Picking up once-in-a-lifetime collectibles is the perfect way to commemorate your visit.

The Olympics last two weeks, and you may want to get away for a day. The English countryside is nearby, and a quick car rental will get you out of town. Escape the hubbub of the celebration for just a day, and come back to the world's largest sporting event. You will have a chance to take in as much of England as possible.

Attending the Olympic games in London is a trip you'll never forget. Fly out there, see as much of the athletes as you can, and enjoy everything else that the city has to offer. Hear some music, see the sights, watch a show, attend a concert, and do some shopping. It's the best vacation you can ever take.
