Are There Any Female Locksmiths.

By: Steve Drumm

{Becoming a|Being a locksmith is by no means determined by whether or not an individual is a male or a female. Females who are interested in this line of employment do face challenges which a man does not inevitably face, but women are not disqualified from becoming locksmiths solely as a result of their gender.

Females are more than capable of performing the mechanical tasks that the job requires, and some women over the years have bridged the gender gap to do extremely well in the field.

If somebody chooses to be in a career such as a locksmith, they may deal less with the public than they might if they were in a job such as waitressing or teaching. It is mare like a one-on-one, in-the-shadows type of position. Although it does put an individual in the public eye, it just isn't a socially demanding position.

There are female locksmiths in several areas of the world. There is certainly one in Russia, one in North Carolina, one in England, one in California, and one in Rhode Island. There is almost no female locksmiths documented in history, and those who are, have low profiles. One of the few and most highly-esteemed women who have made history as a locksmith is Billie Boyd. She is noted as the first female locksmith in the Corps. Also chosen to be an official lockmaster, the next female for such a position in the Corps was Bernadette LeBleu.

Both of these females can attest to the hurdles of having to prove themselves in a male dominated field. females lock pickers enjoy the problem and attend the conventions and events, but they are not given the public attention that these two females had been given. Billie Boyd and Bernadette LeBleu have made locksmithing their dedicated career choice.

A number of the battles a woman locksmith would have to face contain prejudice against their expertise, sexual harassment or insults, compromise of personal safety, not being taken sincerely in the profession, and not being able to gain the deserved esteem.

More is understood regarding the females who compete in combat than is known about women locksmiths. It seems that feminism has had little intrusion into this particular area. As a general rule, mechanical engineering is a field that leans towards the man's thought process instead of the woman's. The appeal just isn't there for many women.

One famous female who is absolutely not yet considered old enough to be a woman is an 11 year old lock picker recognized at an event held for amateurs and experts alike. She wowed the adults at the Locksport International DEFCON 14 event, picking up the talent quickly in the competitions. There can always be an exception to the rule.

Becoming a female locksmith does have its compensation because there are actually so few women in the trade. A woman who does perform exceptionally well will stand out a lot more than usual because there are so few other females to compete with.

While there may be some drawbacks to this type of career, there is also much to be respected about it. The type of personality required to perform the tasks have to be the sort to respect the privacy of others, be willing to be on call for emergencies, and be willing to work alone in most instances.

I have used many locksmith services over the years and they have never let me down yet. They are also cheaper than you might think. Locksmiths Balham is the one that I use at the moment because that is the area that I live in.
