Seeing as how Easter's around the corner many of Americans are beginning to prepare for decorating eggs, going to church, and decorating Easter cookies with our children. Even folks who aren't Christian often still enjoy religious observances such as Christmas and Easter because these festivities are a significant aspect of our national culture. Whether you're Christian or not, Easter gives us all something to honor. Easter comes at the beginning of spring. Considering the amazing 60 degree weather that we have been having lately in Colorado I can feel the Spring air just a few days away and I am excited to welcome once more the season of renewal. If you have a family you are probably organizing seasonal crafts and activities for your children as they imagine the Easter Bunny's annual visit. The Easter Bunny is an instance of how we've turned a religious occasion into something that anyone can enjoy. Let me pose a question. Why do people enjoy Easter in any sense but its religious sense? The reply... Spring pulls us out of our winter shell and inspires us to begin working on resolutions we we might not have yet started.
Though New Year's resolutions are often created in January, it isn't until Spring that we usually begin to work on them. Warm weather, Spring growth, and sunshine are more inspiring than blizzards, winter cold, and sunless days. In spring many of us start eating light, spending more time out and about, exercising more, and becoming more optimistic. These are all things that make us happy and why shouldn't we share that happiness with those we love? People living in colder regions typically wrestle more with depression. Is this a coincidence? When you start into your New Year's resolutions for the first time since announcing them back in January, why don't you share your happiness with those around you?
Easter is a occasion to delight in the reward of new life. We rejoice by giving Easter gifts to our friends, relatives, and children as though saying life's a present, let's honor it! We witness the rebirth of nature and hopefully enjoy our natural surroundings a little bit more. We plant flowers and tend to our gardens and revel in the beauty of the season. We use less heat and electricity as we find ourselves out of the house and make the most of the nice weather. If you take pleasure in these elements of spring like I do, why not share your happiness with your loved ones? Deliver an Easter basket to a distant friend, your relatives in another country, or your nieces and nephews. Design a basket that incorporates one of the aforementioned subjects. What about delivering a health food basket or package your present in an eco-friendly basket? You could also show gratitude for your many blessings by giving a gift full of items that give to charity.
