When we ponder the word car, most of us have images of a four wheeled vehicle of various shapes and sizes. As innovations in the auto industry expand, transportation entertainment concepts rise and industrial needs grow, the definition of an automobile is becoming increasingly obscured. More and more people and organizations are relying on vehicles to help them get their jobs done. They are enjoying cars as hobbies, status symbols and for utility.

The necessity for owning an automobile also increases every day and new demands are regularly made on the auto shipping industry. Car transport companies no longer live in the simple days of yore when they moved standard vehicles from one place to another. Car shippers are now receiving requests that go beyond the complex. People expect to push the limits of auto shippers and they expect their will to be done with ease. Now it's time to look at the mechanical devices the auto shipping companies employ and the ways in which they do that.

Regular standard types of automobiles will always have a need to be shipped over distances to arrive at a new location. This is now being done often, somewhat inexpensively and very efficiently. We always think of vehicles as being earth-bound, but opportunities do arise for auto transporters to consider shipping boats and jet skis. This is a fine illustration of how far vehicle transportation has come. Getting back to the earth bound, but expanding from standard automobiles, many people are requesting that auto shipping companies transport their all terrain vehicles, motorcycles, golf carts and snowmobiles.

The recent building boom has created a new trend in auto shipping. Many are now specializing in heavy equipment transfers. Heavy equipment is difficult to move long distances but auto transportation representatives are finding innovative ways to complete these type of moving projects. In a similar category, both farming vehicles and construction machinery are now making there presence felt within the logistics community.

Other equipment that has recently come to the attention of auto shippers are trailers, generators and car parts. Now that our education of the auto shipping industry has broadened somewhat, lets review a few of the ways companies are handling their multitudinous tasks.

Standard cars are given the choice to be shipped in both open and closed containers. The open containers are more cost effective but leave the vehicle exposed to the elements. Closed transportation costs more but provides much more protection which is usually desired for specialty items like exotics and classics. For the jet skis and boating category, a trailer is required. Many companies will allow you to provide your own or have the option to rent one.

The most reliable shipping companies will not require your vehicle to have license plates as they have their own documentation in lieu of plates.

There are other transportation options that can be employed in moving vehicles including flat bed tow trucks, low boy trailers, step deck trailers, double wide extendable drop trailers, vessel trailers and multi-axle extendable carriers. No matter what type of vehicle you are considering shipping, the auto transportation company you are dealing with should give you every conceivable shipping option available in the industry today.
